Help Jesse and Jessica of the design studio Nervous System construct a sculpture. This is the first time Nervous System will be completing a collaborative art project, and we invite you all to help them solve this puzzle. The goal is to make a large sculpture with the help of attendees from parts that fit entirely in a suitcase! Come build a sculpture while exploring concepts in geometry, art, and design.

Dozens of flat puzzle shaped pieces that have been laser cut from wood must now be bent and fit together with 1000 snap connectors to create an intricately patterned minimal surface inspired by the form of coral. Every flat wooden piece has a unique shape that bends to form a smoothly curved surface and as they connect to their neighbors. The shape of the panels is inspired by the "puzzle cells" seen in the epidermis of leaves.

Techniques explored: laser cutting, panelization, flattening, discrete differential geometry.
